I have been producing music for approximately five years, since I was 13 years old, which was when I discovered my love for EDM. I remember selling my Play:3 in order to buy my first laptop with which I started learning on my own.
I started to watch YouTube tutorials and practicing, at first many times I was overwhelmed and felt that I would not be able to do it but when you really like something, there are no excuses. I really was in love with what I wanted to achieve, so I never gave up and everything was improving. To this day, I'm not a professional but in the beginning, I would never have thought of reaching this level and being able to translate my ideas into music, compared to when I was frustrated when I first started out.
I use FL Studio, because it is the program I started with and it was the most manageable program, it offers a very good workflow and even more for beginners, I really like it.
My equipment has never been very extensive since I have not had enough money to increase it as much as I would like, so I would say my laptop since I could improve it because I have all there. The best decision I have been able to make is to buy a pair of Rokit 5 speakers. At that moment changed everything, a turning point in my production and in my life.
My favorite plugins are:
Sylenth1: this was the first plugin I bought and in my early days it was really the only plugin I used and I will always like it.
Serum: I love it for all the amount of options it gives to edit each sound and the variety.
Not long ago I discovered Manipulator, which is perfect for editing sounds and making it your way and adjusting it to your liking.
I love using FL's Fruity Slicer because one of my main characteristic sounds is to do vocal chops, I love to experiment with any word or phrase and create melodies from it.
I would describe it as unpredictable!
Normally I start building the drop because I have an idea of what style I want to do at that moment. I start looking for sounds that fit with what is going through my head and then I create the rest of the song with the vibe I created with the drop. Sometimes I try to build from a melody I imagine and try to capture it into the project but I still have a lot to improve in terms of melodies and sometimes I still have some problems when interpreting some crazy things that I imagine. That is my main purpose, to dominate the production and be able to create anything that comes to my mind.
But as I said first, it's unpredictable, each song is a world, a different story so there is never a fixed procedure, but more or less this is how I created most of my songs.
I listen to music daily and I love a lot of variety of styles within the EDM, which makes having a much broader vision when creating songs since you have the influence of totally different styles and techniques to create new things to your liking and experiment more and make it your way.
I also like watching tutorials from DJs and producers that I admire and listen to frequently to take an example and learn from them. One of them is Jonas Aden, recently he has been helping the community of upcoming producers a lot and I love it! You can improve your music with techniques that professionals use and that's a privilege.
Whenever I can I also watch live streaming from other producers.
Take it easy, not everything can be achieved overnight. The things that are worth it take time to arrive and this is what I have been learning all this time producing. There is no need to get frustrated if something does not go right the first time or if it's difficult to achieve a goal. If you really love what you do with effort and dedication you will move forward and I say this from my personal experience, I started with a shitty laptop. I bought it second hand after selling my console. Nothing is easy and I have been working these past two years to pay for the studio equipment that I have now.
In short, little by little, the objectives are being achieved, we must not give up.
In regards to writer's block, I try to do things that inspire me certain feelings or ideas that I can later transmit in my music, usually listening to more music, it's the best medicine for everything. It can open certain doors that were closed before inside your head.
What I mostly do is sit in front of my studio and look for new sounds that can create the same sensation and let me in new settings in terms of music and it goes from not knowing what to do to finally create something fantastic. The mind is unpredictable!
Something I used to do in my true beginnings and that was my biggest failure was making something in the style of…
You have to make your own thing, doesn't matter if that song you are working on is not to the liking of others. Keep making what you like, be real to you and no one else. Art is the most subjective thing in this life, so keep working on what you like and there will be people who love what you do.
Don't give up and keep working with what you have until it starts growing (your techniques, equipment…)
I would recommend working with some quality sample packs, I think that is essential. Everything will come if you take it seriously and put everything on it!
I love to see comments and feedback on my songs by people who listen to it, I really appreciate tips and all the love on them.
While I'm working on my songs I'm sending it to a friend that introduced me into the EDM world back in the days. so I have the opinion of someone who loves it as much as I do! Here in Spain, it's not so easy to find people who really love EDM, and that's why I love to get feedback from other producers on my songs and RepostExchange is perfect for that.
My track, 'OUT OF CONTROL'. I think this song was a before and after on my production, a turning point on my quality. I learned some new things and improved a lot my quality with respect to my old songs, so I have a special affection for it! And it received a lot of love that made me feel so proud of it!
I think RepostExchange is one of the most important things I have found since I started making music and share it online!
It has helped me a lot to get my music heard and see what other musicians think about what I do, they already showed me some love but there are a lot of things to come yet!
For example, I had some songs on the top of the charts and that keeps me motivated about what I create. The last one was my song 'ISOLATED' that stayed a few days in the number one spot of the Re-Ex EDM Charts. My track 'LUNATIC' hit the number two position and my remix of 'Feel' charted at number four! It makes my music get heard a lot more and to get feedback from other producers, that's why I love Repost Exchange!
