How long have you been producing music and how did you learn?

I’ve been doing music since I was 10 years old! I wasn't producing music yet at the time but I was definitely involved and started taking it seriously at the age of 15 when I downloaded a software called MixCraft. Day by day, I learned how to record myself with the desire to create great music content. Between 2017 and 2019, I was officially signed to a management team by the name of A1actionent. Now, I'm approaching my career as an independent artist.

What DAW(s) do you use and why?

Currently, I’m using Pro Tools to record, mix, and post-produce.

I’ve tried many other known software like GarageBand, Logic Pro, and even Fruity Loops, but nothing does the job like Pro Tools. There's something about the software itself that is incredible when it comes to creating things exactly the way you picture it in your head. Pro Tools is used by many big label companies and other known artists which gives the software more of a reason to continue coming out with better and bigger plugins than almost any other software. It's definitely something you want to be linked with when it comes to creating new, and better music.

What are your favourite pieces of gear and why?

I love this question because I can finally give a shout out to my Rode NT1 for giving me exactly what I look for in my music!

Besides it being crisp, clean, and perfectly compressed when you have more or less of a high pitched voice when it comes to making hip-hop, it looks sexy and professional!

What are your favourite software plugins and why?

Great question! I enjoy using most of the plugins in the software but to name my favourite one it would have to be the SSL channel and H-Delay.

When it comes to finding the right tone for your voice it can be a bit difficult matching what you wanna hear with what you actually hear if that makes any sense. SSL channel is definitely the correct route to go. When it comes to bringing life to your production, don’t ever forget about your basics. Echos are very important in a song and H-delay does the job for me every time!

How would you summarise your approach/workflow when creating a track?

When creating music, I can say it’s a bit random. I can have many different approaches but when I sit and create, most of the time it just comes organically. Something like, 'in the heat of the moment' type of thing. Sometimes I can write before listening to an instrumental, while other times I'll get excited to put the perfect words on a beautiful instrumental I just heard. It's all mostly organic. Music is a magnet to my life and everything that comes with it is a bonus. I love it although sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming because I’m human and like everyone else, I need my rest. Sometimes, as artists, we’re not really okay with the lifestyle it brings, but none of it matters when you’re in front of something that you have passion for.

What resources do you use to improve your craft?

I study music day in and day out. When it comes to trying to improve my craft, I search for advice from my peers, lots of professional tutorials on YouTube, and I’m always available to sit with someone when it comes to learning new things within engineering and production!

What is the last YouTube tutorial you watched that you would recommend to other Re-Ex Members?

I would DEFINITELY recommend my guy Wayne.wav. Very professional, straight to the point, and detailed when it comes to learning new things!

What knowledge or advice do you wish you'd learned earlier?

Again, another amazing question! My answer to that would be to take ownership of everything you do! The music scene involves a lot more knowledge in business management than you might think. Talent is not always going to get you where you want to be. Take out that LLC and make sure you’re doing things the correct way.

What challenges related to making music do you face and how do you overcome them?

To be honest, the lyrics! In my opinion, I feel like I have perfected what we call 'flow' in the industry, but lyrics are so crucial that sometimes we can underestimate it. You can have a great instrumental but it’s nothing without great, knowledgeable, catchy lyrics behind it. Writer's block is definitely a thing we go through on a daily basis but simply taking a 5-10 minute break can sometimes refresh your mind.

Can you share any killer tips or techniques?

Cut out as much noise as you can from the background. Not all of it is necessary and it can make your music sound so much cleaner. And try to record as if you were on stage; we want to hear the same hype and passion on your track!

Do you use any online tools to assist with the production process?

Not necessarily, but I don’t see why not.

Do you try and get feedback or suggestions to improve your music? If so, how?

Every single day! I have my few picks of people that critique my music before it gets released because it helps me gain insight in hearing what the other person has to say. At the end of the day, there’s going to be thousands of people listening to the same thing they may be hearing on your track that you probably won't catch. As artists, we sometimes get tunnel vision that'll prevent us from stepping out of our comfort zone, so it’s nice to have a little insight here and there into what we’re actually presenting to our crowd.

Which track are you most proud of and why?

Overall I’m proud of everything I release but 'Mary Kay' is my favourite and it's available now on all platforms! It's the best melody I think I’ve done so far when it comes to making catchy music. It’s the perfect mood for anything you’re trying to do on any given day!

Has RepostExchange affected the way you make music? If so, how?

That’s a definite yes!

Sometimes it’s hard to put your music out there and most importantly, organically. RepostExchange is the best platform for exposure towards your craft, not only do you get amazing feedback from amazing artists in the same position you might be in, but the level of exposure is something you won’t get it anywhere else, period! I have recommended this site to every single artist I know and they never regretted it! And I can definitely say the same thing.
