How long have you been producing music and how did you learn?

Everything started 14-15 years ago when I discovered music production from a computer, but more professionally I’ve produced for 10 years. Music has always been in my life, I sang in bands, played the guitar and a lot more, but I have always been interested in IT and data/computers in general and I can admit that I was/am a computer nerd.

When I looked around some websites about 15 years ago, I found some clips on YouTube of people producing music via a computer, and then it was FL Studio that was most interesting at the time. I thought it was very interesting so I wanted to test it myself and I became obsessed right away.

What DAW(s) do you use and why?

I started with FL Studio but after a couple of years, I discovered Logic Pro for Mac and I immediately felt that it was the perfect DAW for me. In my opinion, I love Logic Pro because I like the layout and think that the program has a great workflow.

What are your favourite pieces of gear and why?

What I like most about my speakers is that they feel very premium and give a very honest sound, regardless of whether I play my music through my speakers, in the car, in the nightclub, it sounds the same and it is the sound you want so it does not sounds uneven regardless of environment.

And the subwoofer just because I NEED bass to hear your low frequencies more clearly and who doesn’t love bass?!

What are your favourite software plugins and why?

At this moment: Serum, Nexus, and CamelPhat.

  • Serum: because I love that you can play around with presets and really make your very own touch on it. Even when making a sound from scratch, there are a lot of choices and I really like that. You can turn the knobs to infinity!
  • Nexus: Once I started producing music, Nexus was one of the first synths I used, so Nexus gives me flashbacks and I think their presets sounds great. The design of the new version of Nexus is outstanding and the sounds have been developed for the better, so Nexus is a plugin that I can not live without!
  • CamelPhat: I love this effect plugin, if you want a distorted and aggressive tone in the sounds you use, I can totally recommend this dope plugin.

How would you summarise your approach/workflow when creating a track?

It all depends on what kind of song I am going to create. If you have a good song to work with it will be much easier to know what kind of sound you want to do.

If you make an instrumental song it is really mixed, sometimes I start with the drop and sometimes I start with the verses, it depends on what sound you find and in what vibe you are in.

What resources do you use to improve your craft?

Mostly I take info from YouTube and watch tutorials and get inspired, that's how I started back in the days, I’ve never studied in a music school, I’m self-taught and I have YouTube to thank for that.

What is the last YouTube tutorial you watched that you would recommend to other Re-Ex Members?

Recently I watched Jonas Aden’s video about mastering, he explains the power of mastering and that you don’t need to spend many many hours on it. Very informative and interesting:

What knowledge or advice do you wish you'd learned earlier?

Networking more with people, at the beginning of my career I was incredibly focused on sitting alone in my studio and just working, so I forgot everything else that has to do with an artist career, such as talking to people in the industry, creating relationships and making contacts, I think I was a little bit scared before making contact with business people.

Even today I am still super focused on my music but I also have a completely different mindset when it comes to making contacts and marketing myself as an artist and I feel completely unafraid because I know it will only be a win-win situation to make contact with people.

What challenges related to making music do you face and how do you overcome them?

My biggest challenge for me personally is my self-confidence.

Of course, self-confidence is a difficult thing for all people, regardless of industry.

The most important thing for me to develop my creativity is to get feedback from people who really understand my creation and give me constructive criticism, it is very easy to send to a random person who says, "Cool bro". You do not get much out of such comments directly, or maybe you say so just to be kind.

Can you share any killer tips or techniques?

If you are a beginner in music production then I can really recommend watching tutorials on YouTube, just like I did, today there are really tutorials on EVERYTHING!

Another good thing to do is to take your favourite songs and try to recreate them because then you will be able to master the sounds in a completely different way and you will have a completely different way of thinking about how a song is created and arranged. Once you feel that you have been able to master it, you can start by creating your own music.

Do you use any online tools to assist with the production process?

As I said before, I still use YouTube today to get more inspiration to develop my creation and the technical part. As a music producer, you develop all the time and there is really no end, the music creation is endless.

Do you try and get feedback or suggestions to improve your music? If so, how?

Of course, it is always good to get in touch with good people around you who understand your music and your vision, because then you get the best feedback and constructive criticism that you are looking for.

Which track are you most proud of and why?

The song I'm most proud of I would probably say is 'On My Own' along with Trent Park who is an artist, producer, and songwriter from Los Angeles.

The story behind the song was that we would produce it for a collaboration between two very big US artists but we decided after a very long wait that we wanted to release it ourselves and we were so happy with the end result.

Has RepostExchange affected the way you make music? If so, how?

RepostExchange has helped me to gain activity to my account on SoundCloud so my music reaches a wider audience.

It is harder nowadays than before to get plays on their songs but thanks to RepostExchange it has helped me to boost my music content, so thank you so much for that!
