When Switchblade Remy started getting flooded with collab requests from artists he’d met on RepostExchange, he figured, why not turn all that creative energy into something bigger? That’s how Liquid Mixtape came to life: a full project made up of collabs with Re-Ex members. We featured COMA by Switchblade Remy and JXSEPH on episode 100 of the RepostExchange podcast, which dropped last week. Here, Switchblade Remy takes us through how each track came about.
This track has a cool story. I met Yung Aug about a year ago at an open house studio event for artists to meet up and promote The Shop Studios in Richmond, CA. A year later, we met up again and made a few songs at my private studio, and we also started working on modelling for the clothing brand Dead Zone Popstar. This was one of the songs we made during that time.
This was a dope song that hit really hard to me and had that nostalgic SoundCloud Lil Uzi Vert-era sound to it. It was fun to hop on this one with the new rage pop style I’ve been working on lately.
My lil bro Odama$an sent me this to hop on the mixtape. He’s been doing his thing for years and rocking with Dead Zone Popstar. He’s coming up next on a smooth street rap wave with some sick storytelling as well.
This song is a banger to me. My bro LDIZZY VOCALZ sent me this to throw on the tape. I actually met him recently on RepostExchange, and he has a super dope mix of classic and new wave street rap. This song just hits, a nice one to ride to!
What can I say?? My bro went insane on this one for real. Pure street vibe, hardcore-hitting song; the vocals and flow hit so hard. I also met my bro SahnHova through RepostExchange and YouTube, making videos about RepostExchange. I’m hyped I met him. We’re going to make some bangers, so watch this space!
This is another song that my lil bro Jxseph sent me for the mixtape. He’s been leveling up real hard recently, so on both of these collabs, I wanted to come in with a solid verse that was smooth. I didn’t want to bring too much energy. Basically, I think my bro is hitting his own weight right now, and I wanted to deliver a more laid-back, swaged-out verse so his parts could hit even harder. I wanted him to get the punch on these songs.
Okay, this one is all my bro going in for real. SAHN HOVA went insane on this one, and it was hella dope to just throw a verse on the end of it. It was sick because it’s not the style of beat I’m used to recording over, so it was hella dope to hop on something different.
This is a dope, relaxing song that I feel really gives the whole tape some time to breathe. I met my bro Annawak through being a RepostExchange ambassador. It was really dope because he was down to hop on the mixtape and provide a different sound so the tape could be more dynamic.
This was a collab that came together because of RepostExchange also. My bro Goresorrow left a comment on one of my songs to see if I wanted to collab, and it was perfect timing because I was accepting submissions for the first RepostExchange community mixtape. This song was fun to throw a new chorus concept on at the end for a song called “Guns Go Blaze Up.” Sometimes on collabs, I like to make a version of the song just for my own verse; I find that it adds a new dynamic to the track that listeners won’t expect to hear.
My bro Helplesss is such a dope producer and also has a classic Lil Peep-SoundCloud-era vibe to all his production that I love. We’ve been cool for years, and I actually met him on SoundCloud. I definitely need to work with him more when I have the time!
